Berlin-based Chuvash-Russian singer-songwriter Arina Popova's pure, unguarded vocals grace a feathery indie aesthetic — spanning Alternative Chamber Pop to a cool, eerie electronic breeze, with sparks resonating between Björk and Laura Mvula. Her songs explore freedom, self-empowerment and love, as well as feminism and the courage to resist oppressive forces.
Born in Astrakhan, a port city near the Caspian Sea, and raised in a small town near Moscow into a music-loving yet troubled family music quickly becomes Arina‘s destiny as well as her escape. She graduates with distinction from the Moscow State Schnittke Institute of Music, builds a career composing for film and television across Russia and Europe, and makes her mark as vocalist of R.M.F., whose 2007 album "Into" on Ministry of Sound Germany spawns two charting singles. A decade in Israel follows, where her indie-pop duo YUAR and a mesmerising appearance of Arina
on The Voice Israel establish her as a name to watch internationally.
Since 2022 based in Berlin, she now reinvents herself as Arina Phoenix - taking a stand for her creative independence and a woman's perspective in music production. Her debut single „Daisies" offers a first glimpse into her sonic universe: delicate electronic arrangements melting into warm saxophones like honey in the sun.
